BERLIN grande finale - K17

hey hou jou jou!

So Berlin was the last one but not in any way the least, because we were even promoted from open-act to the second band of the bill for the last event.

Our ferry arrived to Rostock 14.00 and we were off to the big B. But soon there was some trouble blooming. We got stuck there in the Berlin's way 'cause of a trafficjam, a ka deutsche STAU, and continued our journey at the mindblowing speed of 20km/h for a few hours. How cool is that! Not.

So after spending an eternity travelling to Berlin we finally arrived to the city sub-urban, and of course we haven´t got a clue where the hell the K17 venue was. After some sweating in the bus without the f*cking GPS (remember the gypsies...) our decision was to call a taxi and we asked it to drive in front of our car and lead us to the venue. Of course the taxidriver grandpa was an "old-school" taxi gentlemen and he drove and searched the place like one hour because he was lost as he didn´t have the gps navigator either, and didnt actually know where the venue was. We were following him as fast as we could (looked our watchies that we should be on-stage
in an hour..) but he was still furious about our driving being too slow.

We made it there eventually and had less than 30 min. to the beginning of our gig. There was this one band before us luckily and as they played we got ourselves ready and did a world record in line-checking (5 min.), even Nile guys and Massive Music roadies said that this is the fastest
load-in / check they´ve seen! The gig itself was excellent, the venue was full and rocking and we squeezed the last OG-juices to the Berliner face - Thank u Berlin, we wish you well!

Here's the setlist of the evening for ya:
Undertaker / Nail / Into Sea / Shadowkey / Shapes and Shades / Writhen / Redshifter / Spiritual / Chameleon Skin

After the gig there was some farewell partying with the Massive Music guys, Severe Torture dudes and Nile gentlemen et all. We were bought some finnish minttu/salmiakki liquor stuff to the tour personnel, and they liked it. Mihail the roadie liked it the most and it was seen well after he drank one bottle of the stuff and was happier and hornier than ever that we´ve seen. Now we had also some courage at last to ask Nile manager/sound engineer "Punchy" about Morbid Angel, which he has done a lot of work with + some other sagas from the Florida death metal scene. Aaand we listened!

After the evening we were back on the road again - Pikka bros and Kalke our sound man were transported to the Berlin airport as the yuppies wanted to fly back home asap. We who are not as others (yuppies) stayed in Germany two days still and went back home with Tallink ferry from Rostock with all our gear an' stuff.

So, this concludes the ITHYPHALLIC / RIDING THE REDSHIFT OVER EUROPE tour and we head to continue to the Finnish leg of the "Riding The Redshift" tour, see ya Finnsters there! Finnish fans have to show their nails now as the Europe did it well!

After a while we´ll be uploading some tour pictures to this dear diary, so stay tuned or un-tuned!

Norway & Sweden

OSLO - John Dee

We were looking forward to play first time in the land of the burning churches and the only true black metal. We had some arrogant punk-attitude going on and we were strong and northernmost evils and didn´t pay the NorWegian governments road tolls. We just drove thru them - autopass, eh! Expensive Norway didn´t get any extra money from us. The countryside and "mountains" of southern Norway looked very nice and pretty, so this journey was full of sights for sore eyes!

When we finally arrived to Oslo, the most fucked up moments were still ahead, as this time we didn't have anymore the GPS navigator a ka mr. TomTom of Finland to guide our way to the venue. Thanks for the Gothenburg thieves (= Or the gypsies of GBG, as the police officers thought to us...). But after some wandering in the Oslo centrum jungle we found the John Dee venue. Cool but small venue.

We had very early playing time here - the doors opened at 8 o´clock and we were starting to play at 15 past 8. But, luckily the venue were already really packed during our gig and we played the really best show of this tour so far and the audience really dug it! Of course, there was again some strange "perkele" shouts in the crowd and there were again also some fellow Finns there. Merch sales were the biggest one there, so thanks Norge! We also met again our pals from Norwegian black metal band Nebular Mystic.

GOTHENBURG again, NOW THE GIG itself

After Norway we headed back again to the city of the thieving gypsies - The Gothenburg! This time we had some serious action on the city and not just a day-off. The evenings metal event took place at the Musikens Hus venue, which reminded us strangely from "legendary" 4-teatteri venue of our home town Kotka, of course this one was bigger and better one though. Again we had some time-off to wander in the city and surprisingly we found ourselves in one big record store, and the strange cd buyings continued - Eric Clapton, Tom Petty, Kansas, Crash Test Dummies, Tears For Fears etc... It seems that everybody is little bit heard enough brutal death metal during the last weeks, haha.

After loading in, Nile FOH engineer Punchy Gonzalez was having big problemos with the shitty PA-system and the stupid decibel restrictions of the Sweden / this venue. So, this time we haven´t got time for a normal soundchecking as everything was late here because of this... But our gig went cool enough and our soundman Kalke did some spells to save our evenings live sound and he did it well, again. But the guitar equipment set-up of Markus was AGAIN having some problems, tubescreamer pedal just didn´t work and the wireless transmitter was having some shitty moments.

Our local Gothenburg friends from Dark Tranquillity had also arrived to check out our gig and after the gig Stanne and Henriksson of DT wanted to show us some Gothenburg nightlife. After listening some Kansas and drinking beers with DT guys in our tour camper we headed to bar and found also Jivarp of DT there. Fellow Finns and fellow Swedes were a lil bit drunk this time and after these beerful brotherhood of metal moments it was again time to jump to the bus and get back on the road to the Malmö Kultuurpuulaaki.

MALMÖ - Kulturbolaget

So the journey continued. The next place to play was in Malmö in the venue called 'kulturbolaget'. The venue itself was really nice, capacity was something like 750. This time every band had their own dressing room which was exellent indeed! But but, our dressing room was the only one with shower and a toilet so you guys can imagine the traffic our room had during the night, weird... . Still the night was really good and again we made a lot of new friends.
This was also the venue which had the best dinner and all the other preparations worked really well too. Hejja Sverige, När kommer nästa bussen till Slussen!?

There was one point which made the evening a little sad, as our mates from Grave had their last show of this tour and amazing one it was! They had Seth from Severe Torture on vocals in song "you'll never see", as also Nile's drum technician Adam was behind the drumkit on that song and also our Roadie-guy Mihail was jamming with bass. And on "Soulless" Nile's bassist Chris was doing the vocals, so the Gravies had a hellowa gig!

Only one gig in Berlin to go on this tour before we go go. Then it´s the time for Finnish touring for the og's!

So, one for the road!

DAY-OFF in Jööttepori

The Örebro gig was cancelled on our behalf because the Nile crew had fucked up the ferry reservations, and couldn´t arrive to Sweden on time. So, we had a day-off now and decided to spend it at the melodic death metal capital - Gothenburg.

Jukka and Jarmo went to VALHALLA swimming hall to activate their sport muscles and the others decided to do some sporty shopping and hanging out in the centrum and doing some sightseeing (=Sweden really has the most beautiful women of planet earth!)

In the evening we heard that OG´s "The Redshift" had reached the Finnish national TOP-40 album chart on position #24, so of course we headed to the nearest bar to salute this and the address was Hard Rock Cafe Gothenburg. Amazingly good looking women, good music and nicely fucking expensive beer!

And when there´s something good, there´s also always something bad and shitty. Some thieves decided to visit our van and stole our two GPS navigators and some personal gear, including mostly really dirty laundry. For example Markus' beloved gig pants were stolen which really STINK! The stupid fucks didn´t take anything else, we even had all our merch money, computers, instruments etc. there... Good for us in the end!

Over and out!

Mehr Deutschland und Danmarkt!

HAMBURG - Markthalle

A long drive from Eindhoven to Hamburg, so the night was spent on sitting in the bus as usual. In the afternoon we arrived
to Hamburg Markthalle and for our pleasure we saw that the gig had been moved from small hall to a big hall, nice work
The Nile's! Some loading and checking the space and we were free to head to do some Hamburg sightseeing.

Some Finnish friends of Jukka flew to check out this gig, so we had a mission to play a good gig then... And, of course, so
we did. One of the best dates on this tour, even though our sound-man Kuuma-Kalle was not so pleased about the hall sound and
his work on this gig. The crowd was also enthusiastic, so we´re sure we made a lot of new German friends here!

After the gig we had a very good mood on the backstage and the band members spoke to themselves like "best gig!", "the bestest" etc.
and when Kalle arrived to backstage we asked him enthusiastically "how did u like our gig?" - The honest answer as always: "Shit!".
We laughed, different opinions as always. But in the end he fixed his opinion and told that it was only about the sounds.... :)

After the gig Markus, Kalle and Harri headed towards the city centrum again in the quest of finding the best döner kebab ever, as
Hamburg is famous for them. Though the reise wasn´t success, only these three blokes won´t find the kebab house in the kebab capital city
of Europe... Toni and Jukka were spending the night with freak Finnish "alcoholist-friends" and then after enough drinks Toni disappeared.
When we had a bus call and we should have left to travel to Denmark we just couldn´t find the man anywhere and he didnt answer to phone either.
We had some serious views about drunken session bassists dropped down dead or something like that and we even talked with the local cool Polizei's
about this case.

...and then after two hours of seeking - the man called to us that he was just with one german girl.. Fuck that! :)

DENMARK - Stundenterhuset

The Aalborg city was nice and cool old town with lots of medieval buildings, and we had a great timing on visiting this city first time - There was today a football champions league
match Aalborg vs. Manchester united... So, the town was full of aggressive football fans and drunken people.

We had a 10 000 people on our gig, but just outside the venue, as there was a big football screen on a market square just next to the Studenterhuset venue.
But, luckily there was also metalheads inside the venue watching our gig.

Nice town, good gig, lots of pissing drunken football fans next to our bus and that was it - the aal"björn"borg!

Holland - Eindhoven

It seems that the Holland have all the best and coolest gig venues, The Effenaar club in Einhoven is amazing indeed, Big new house with two separate clubs and our tour trek played on the bigger one. It was first time visit Eindhoven for all of us and luckily we had some time-off to wander on the city, nice and tidy city with lots and lots of bicycles.

So, we killed there also! The best venue and a bunch of freezed metal-zombiez in the crowd. The most quiet crowd on this tour, even there were lots of metlhedz at present. Though we also played maybe the laziest show so far...

The venue was so big that we did some Spinal Tap moves and almost got lost several times. "Hellooo Cleveland" indeed - Huge stairs (1000000 steps really), a band competition downstairs with tens of bands, lots of rooms an' backstages in many floors and coffee for everyone. Thats Holland for you!

After the gig it was quiet "parties" goin as there were some hangoveric athmosphere with us. So it was just sitting on the tourbus and watching some Black Sabbath live footage. Dio was better than mr. metalgod Halford on Sabbath...

RRRööööh!

HOLLAND / BELGIUM / GERMANY

Haarlem's Patronaat venue was one of the best venues we´ve ever played - everything was fucking A, the local crew was too nice and helpful, catering and food was really really good and the venue stage and backstage were big and cool indeed. So, nice debut in Holland. Oh yeah, and the gig was good too and there were many people packed already for our show. We even took one more old song to the setlist for the gig and did the good ol' "Perfumed Garden" and the crowd seemed to like it, again as always with that song. Don't really know why we play that song so rarely. Toni also had some tae-kwon-do thaiboxing again with Karl from Nile.

Belphegor changed to Severe Torture since this gig, nice to get some fresh sweat to the line-up! They´re doing the rest of the tour. At the end of the evening there was some beer accidents as we and ST had drinken all the beer of the tour tech crew, and they were angry... Of course the Finnish guys were the first ones to doubt.

Vosselaar, Belgium was next in line and the nights venue was the famous Biebob club, in the middle of nowhere at some normal sub-urban. The food was really good homemade shicken with potatoes, so the bellys were full for the gig! We found the already earlier recommended Metal Zone record store from the right next door from the Biebob. So, as we had heard, the store was really good and we all did some shopping there. The theme of the evening was adult oriented AOR music - Kansas, Journey, Queen, Toto, Ozric Tentacles etc.. True and evil stuff u know!
Well, we still tried to kept also our metal roots and bought new albums of Haunted, Enslaved and Burst...

The audience of Biebob seemed to be the laziest so far and most people were watching our gig far away. "Typical Belgish crowd" said the guy from Severe Torture as the same kind of audience action continued on their gig. After the gig we did some pub sightseeing.

Then we headed to Essen, Germany to play at Essen Death Fest 7 festival-kind-of-thing at Turock club. The night was already also sold-out in advance, 800 people and Behemoth, Vomitory and Grind Inc. The German days were started with the breakfast including the basic WURST und BROT, what could be better way to prepare for the gig. Essen gig was really good and the crowd was big, so after the gig we decided to activate some serious beer-action and we
had some beering with our fellow neighbours, Vomitory from Sweden.

Next back to Holland aayee!

First day-off!

We used our one and only day-off driving away from UK, as fast as we could, haha.

SeaFrance sailed us away from the island via Dover - Calais route. French shop clerks at the ship didn´t allowed us to change the UK coins to paper money in the ship, because they "hadn´t got any time" to calculate the big amount of coins we had from the merch money etc.. So, we decided then to buy some cases of beer with those coins and the clerk then counted the coins after all, heh.

We drove one day via UK, france, belgium and Holland, so it was a nice sight-seeing of the motorways and gas-stations of the different countries. Holland and Belgium won the round.

At the evening we drove to Haarlem city centre, where our next gig will be and finally we had some time to wander in the pub, without playing some metal stuff. And the beer was good, again. And cheap! Hail to Holland!

Next gig is at Haarlem in big Patronaat venue, looking forward to do the Holland debut there!

Cheeerzz!
